Hartman). On the one hand, you're offended by a depiction of the USMC that you can't believe is accurate. On the other hand, you express fear at the thought that it could actually be accurate. Jarhead is a disgrace because it's inaccurate, unless it is, in which case it's just a shame.

Sgt. Hartman, I can only say that I think your response attests to the power of the film. You were shaken out of your comfort zone. I find it interesting that the only offensive inaccuracy you cite is Jake Gyllenhal's being naked in a Santa hat. You clearly value the Corps and hate to see it disrespected; I respect that. However, if we only experienced art that was reassuring to our values, how would we ever know anything beyond our own experience?

One last thing: you mention how the military used to screen naked Gyllenhals and other such ruffians out. I recommend you check out a recent Vanity Fair article about the military recruitment of mentally and physically handicapped kids who are blatantly unfit to serve and have been told by recruiters how to get through the loopholes of the system. In any case, thanks for your contribution, Sarge, and I hope you stick around.Andrew Bemishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06097037829531087694noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18377389.post-1132535011025293052005-11-20T20:03:00.000-05:002005-11-20T20:03:00.000-05:00The movie Jarhead was a disgrace and an embarrassm...The movie Jarhead was a disgrace and an embarrassment to the men and women that serve in the United States Armed Services. Not all of the information was accurate about what happened in the desert. If men like these are what is keeping us free then I am so scared. The military used to screen people carefully and you'll never make me believe that this is what the USMC has been reduced to. This movie made me sick. We have been living the military way of life for over 20 years and this movie was the worst depiction that I have EVER seen. I'm sorry that I spent my money on it and even sorrier that people will believe that this is what the men are acting like that are defending our freedom. Dancing around naked in the desert, I mean let's get real.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18377389.post-1131333112236264062005-11-06T22:11:00.000-05:002005-11-06T22:11:00.000-05:00Thanks very much - I appreciate the input, it's ex...Thanks very much - I appreciate the input, it's extremely helpful.
