King Kong or Mulholland Drive?

UPDATED: Looks like the tiebreaker vote is mine, and I'll go with Mulholland Drive. Lynch's films, especially his most recent films, escape the dry, detached intellectualizing that often goes hand in hand with the term "postmodern." Mulholland Drive is a complex cinematic experiment, but it's also thrilling, sexy and boldly emotional. Few films are as alive.

As for King Kong, it's a great deal of fun and has a bunch of awe-inspiring scenes, but it's also painfully dated in many ways. When I saw it on the big screen in May, I had a big smile on my face half of the time, but the rest of the time I was cringing at the racial stereotypes and creaky acting (excluding Fay Wray, of course). Blasphemy alert: I think I prefer the Peter Jackson version.

Can we assume that you mean the original Kong here? As stange as it might sound, with the most recent remake still under a year out of the gate it could make some confusion.

I think it's safe to assume we're talking about the 1933 version Anonymous. My vote goes to Kong, and not just because a certain MCLA professor ruined Mullholland for me. Kong's story just stands up to the test of time and gets to the its audienece easily. I could be biased by the classic status that the much older film has but I think Kong is one of those rare instances where something really potent and meaningful blends well with something that can be enjoyed as just popular feature.
As strange as it may sound, what always intrigues me is how much Kong reminds me of Shakespeare. Beyond the tradgedy, there's the final line of the film, which like many Shakespearean quotes, plenty of people know, but not many seem to know the source.

Sorry Lynch, but the big ape just manages to climb a little bit higher here.

King Kong, presuming we're talking about the original.

Great article, I think you covered everything there. I would say freelancing is quite hard especially if you are not used to working on your own, can be quite hard to motivate yourself also. . . we all know what it is like to stare at the monitor.
